FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS:  Archbishop Emeritus Keith Patrick Cardinal O’Brien (1938-2018) RIP. The Requiem Mass of Cardinal Keith Patrick O’Brien RIP will take place at the Church of St Michael, Westmoreland Road, Newcastle on Thursday 5 April at 1.00pm. As requested by the Holy See, the main celebrant and homilist will be His Eminence Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster. Donations to SCIAF’s Lenten campaign in lieu of flowers please. The interment of the body of the late Cardinal O’Brien will then take place at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Edinburgh on 6 April at 1.00pm The Cardinal’s body will be laid to rest in the grave of his mother and father. This was in accordance with wishes expressed by Cardinal O’Brien himself. May he rest in peace. Read the Full Story
CHURCH CLOSURE PLANS DROPPED: Archbishop Leo Cushley has dropped draft proposals to close a significant number of churches across the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh, following a two-year consultation with the people of the Archdiocese which included nearly 120 public meetings attended by over 7,000 parishioners. “If you choose to consult with parishioners and priests, then you have to listen to what they are saying and, in this instance, I was happy to be persuaded by the case that was made to me by many of our people and clergy,” said the Archbishop, Sunday 25 February, “The fact is, people are very attached to their local churches and have expressed a wish in many places to keep them.”   Read the Full Story
LOVE LENT: Archbishop Leo Cushley chose St Valentine's Day to invite the young people of the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh to fall in love with…Lent. “I was delighted to be approached by a group of young adults from across the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh who asked for help in understanding Lent more fully and advice on how to live it better – the result is Love Lent, a series of three talks delivered by me and culminating in a gathering on Palm Sunday in Edinburgh,” said Archbishop Cushley, 14 February, which is also Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.  Read the Full Story

HOLY MASS & CONFESSION FINDER APP LAUNCH: Beneath the dome of St Peter’s Basilica in Rome and amid the skirl of the Scottish bagpipes, Archbishop Leo Cushley of St Andrews & Edinburgh has unveiled what is thought to be the world’s first interactive, GPS-powered, Holy Mass and Confession finder app. “This is a little bit of smart technology that could make a big impact on how the the Catholic Church brings the mercy of God and the joy of the Gospel to our contemporary world,” said the Archbishop, Tuesday 23 November in Rome.
